How do you obtain medical clearance/advice? Do you send the client to the doctor or contact the doctor directly?
Have the client take care of this matter. If physician wishes to speak with you then you can call. But, only discuss with physician the information you gave him on your release form. If he wants something different then, send him a new release. I have had physicians sign a general release to keep their client happy but, tell me something different on the phone. This is dumping the responsibility on me. So, be careful. Brian Rozzi
As with Karin I have the client contact the physician. If they have more than one risk factor I ask for the consent in writing.
There have been times I have wanted to talk directly to the doctor, but you need to fill out a HIPPA compliance form first. This is pretty easy to do; get the form online, have your client sign it and fax it to the doctor. Once this is done (I usually send my email with the form) I have found email the easiest way to communicate with the physician.
