I am a small gym owner looking to increase members base. I am planning to hire a sales person and add free day pass option on my website to collect information about potential clients. Do you think this method combined with SEO/marketing (FB and google ads) will work out well? What kind of marketing do you use?
I do have a gym management software which does not have a CRM module. Would it be possible to manage everything in an excel file for example? If yes, what information should I track? What is important in terms of reporting?
I was wondering what other ways (not too expensive) are there to get more clients?

You can try direct mail as well. Target areas/neighborhoods in the radius you are looking to attract members from and send them information about your club, your services and any other promotions you are having at that moment. FB a is always a great way to get the word out as long as it gets shared to others (not just your members). Having a website and doing some SEO is another great way of marketing. Hire someone who is an expert in SEO. Your website designer should be able to do this.
Word of mouth is another way of getting new members. As long as you provide an excellent customer service, your members will be giving you great reviews to anyone they meet. This is also free at charge. Hiring some great trainers would also help bring in members who are interested in personal training and/or fitness classes. (if you offer any at your location).
When you get new leads make sure to follow up with every single one of them to introduce yourself and get that personal contact aspect as well. Asking them what their goals are and what they hope to accomplish from joining your gym will help you understand their needs and deliver results in a more efficient way. This will also make them feel important and make them better members of your little ‘community’. People tend to stay in the same places when they feel they belong to the team. CrossFit can be wrong in so many ways, but they have managed to create that atmosphere and team environment that makes people followers. If you can create something similar to this, then your gym membership will grow. I hope this helps.
