What does 1,000 mean to you?
Does it matter to you where they come from?
Personally, I look at where my “likes” are from as opposed to how many there are. If a “like” isn’t local, then chances are it won’t translate to a customer.
Like Janet mentioned in her post, you might want to find a reason for people to like your page. For example, sometimes on my fb page, I post facebook-only discounts, and my fb fans are the very first to find the locations and dates of my special events / classes.
