You need to contact your cert organization and find out how to submit your teaching for credit. It may be accepted and it may not. I do a lot of teaching, but have never tried to submit it as CEC hours. CECs have never been a problem for me. I take courses regularly. It is my hope that all fitness pros spend more time on education than is required.
Using myself as an example, I just recertified all of the certs that I am keeping current and do not need to recertify for at least 3 years on all of them. But I have already accumulated enough CECs to recertify them all again, but will wait until they are about a year out before I do. Last year I had 128 contact hours alone. And that doesn’t include a number of things that I did solely out of personal interest in the topic. Like Parkinson’s disease, TBI, and Sports Injury prevention.
Professional education will eventually become an even bigger part of our recertification process. And trainers that are just taking clients through workouts and not addressing their real needs, issues, and lifestyle will find that the industry is leaving them behind. It would be easier to start acquiring more education now than to wait until it is required.
