How can I get more clients?
I am an Independent Trainer working out of a gym for over 2 years. I offer free first session, package specials, do different events (free seminars on working abs, cardio, fitness assessments etc), I have a Facebook fan page, offer Bootcamps and do a monthly newsletter. It’s been a slow go and I need to increase my income. Do you have any other suggestions
Hi Heather,
I would focus on your current avenues to maximize publicity and further enrich your name in the fitness community. Every piece of information about you on the Internet should be created and preserved with the same dedication you offer your clients.
I briefly looked over search result for your name on a few of the major search engines and noticed that there is room for search optimization. I recommend brandyourself.com, a promising free website that helps boost personal publicity on the Internet. The site allows someone to optimize search results for all positive information regarding his or herself on the Internet, while reducing search results for negative information. Also, it is a great way to connect your postings, fitness articles, client reviews, web sites, and other positive publicity.
In addition, I viewed your facebook page and saw room for improvement by increasing viral spread. You have a decent number of “likes”, which means that every time you post a response, it will show up on those individuals’ news feeds. The trick for free advertising is to post fitness facts and personal articles four or more times a week. The postings should be made during early morning hours and around 7-8pm, which are the times people are most likely to view facebook. Also, incorporate fun pictures with each post to help capture the attention of audience. Turn your facebook page into a community for your clients and friends to post fitness questions and comments. The more people interact with your page and share your information, the more publicity you will get. In addition, post your services, views, what makes you unique as a personal trainer, videos, and links to other information that pertains to you, under your information tab.
Make all your sources interact with each other. Have your blog entries show up on your facebook page.
Another method to increase revenue is to endorse a fitness product that you feel is beneficial to your clients. Get in touch with the company and become an independent distributer. I personally work with Muscle Angels Massagers, which is a therapeutic messaging tool that allows an individual to practice deep tissue massage, trigger points, and acupressure on one’s self.
You are off to a great start and with a little fine-tuning your publicity and revenue will greatly increase.
Best of Luck,

Do you have a client specialty? If you do, where do those clients get together? What local groups are there where you could offer to speak to them about the value of personal training? If you know “who” you want your clients to be and “where” they gather, spend some time in those areas to find them.
For instance, I love training pre/post natal and moms. I speak to my local ob/gyns about the value of my services, to moms groups about how they can exercise with their little ones and to the local community services about the programs I offer. I get referrals from them, but mainly my referrals come from current or past clients who rave about the services I provide, what they’ve learned and how much fun they had in the process.
Keep up the great work! The clients are sure to follow!
Janet said it well!!! Referrals are the best way to go!!! It builds your credibility instantly and lowers the barrier of entry when singing up with you. You have to condition your clients from the start. Make it a win win situation as you help them achieve their fitness goals they can help you with your goal to help many people by referring their friends, family and co workers. Make them write down the name of 5 people right on the spot.
You can even make it fun and competitive for your current clients. Have a contest! Whoever summits the most during a month wins a prize. The prize can be anything, but make it a good one!!!
Your definitely on the right track! Continue working hard and try out these few tips. They’re easy to do and the best part about it is they don’t cost one red cent, only more $ in your pocket!
Much success!!
I always let me current clients know when I have openings in my schedule
I don’t offer anything for free,I agree with LaRue on that one.
You need to value what you do.
You may want to offer small group training, connnect on Linkeden and complete your profile page on Fitness Connect, blogging is great also
