1) I am a cert pilates instructor and cert health coach, and I’m starting my own business offering both health coaching and fitness training…in order to privately train individuals beyond pilates (using weights, cardio, etc), am I required to get a Personal Trainer certification? 2) I have registered my business as an LLC…am I required to get additional liability insurance or is the LLC sufficient?
Definitely get certified as a CPT. Often times the insurance company will want this to cover you. Be sure to get adequate liability insurance to cover everything. CPT liability insurance is cheap. If you open up your own studio or gym you will need more but your rep will be able to help you with that. Lastly you will definitely need to form an LLC to cover yourself. If you are the sole owner you can form a Single Member LLC and be taxed like a sole proprietor. If you are opening a gym or studio you might want to consider an S Corporation. I would research all your options and possibly speak to an attorney just in case. It may cost you more but in the long run you will be happy you got the right information in spite of the extra cost. Good luck with your business!
