Hi, any in-home/home gym trainers have marketing advice to obtain new clients?

I STARTED IN HOME 30+ YEARS AGO. I CHARGED A LOWER PRICE THEN ALL TRAINERS IN MY AREA AT FIRST. AT THAT TIME THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER WAS GOOD SOURCE OF ADVERTISEMENT. NOW, I DONT KNOW. BUT I PROVIDED A QUALITY SERVICE AND FOCUSED ON RESULTS FOR MY CLIENTS. OF COURSE WORD OF MOUTH TOOK OVER THEN. I DID RAISE MY PRICES BUT NOT AS HIGH AS OTHER TRAINERS AS I HAD LOWER OVERHEAD. BUT, NO MATTER WHAT OR WHERE, CLIENT RESULTS ARE VERY STRONG WITH REFERENCE TO WORD OF MOUTH. HOPE THIS HELPS.

The best way is to get out there and work for your community. Volunteer at races, health fairs, corporate events, school functions, charities. The more you are involved on those levels the more doors will open for you. Giving to the community will give back to you. Social media works but only if it shows a person that cares. Trainers are everywhere on the internet. Be one that’s on the streets too. I built a thriving business that way before I ever went to marketing tools. Both are necessary, but the first is the most rewarding.

Hi Jennifer,

Here are a few tips:

-Join networking groups (small business owners are the best owns because they have the income to afford you).

-Network with physical therapists, massage therapists and chiropractors in your area. These health professionals are the ones who will refer you the most clients to you, since they are related to our industry and usually have patients who would benefit for your services.

-Craigslist

-Be active in this forum (IDEA fitness). I have gotten a lot of business through this site.

-Donate some of your services to different fundraising events as part of silent auctions. It’s free and people like to support these type of events.

-Become a sponsor at a local fitness event. You can spent as little as $100 and have you name featured on their t-shirts and/or the event’s web site.

-Use your car as an advertising tool for your business. You never know who would take your number down and give you a call for some sessions.

I hope this helps :-)!

Best,
Harris

Hi Jennifer,

since you work in-home, you are not visible to potential clients.

You can start an outdoors (or mall, if permitted) program which can be as simple as a group walking program with some additional interesting exercises. Wearing a shirt with your name and telephone number is helpful. Stuff your pockets with business cards.

Your NASM specialties are well regarded, and you can try to contact chiropractors, physical therapists and massage therapist to have a mutual referral program.

I would make the facebook business page a little more personal. People love to see YOU, and you could describe a ‘move of the week’ with pictures of yourself.

I wish you a happy New Year.

You’ve received some great tips already.

Have you tried a referral program with your current clientele? They get a reward for a client they refer to you.

A free session day or a one hour class offered to potential clients so they can try you out risk free.
