Have you ever done a job share with another personal trainer?
I too am not quite sure how this would work with my business. I currently only take on clients that can work within my schedule. If they would like additional sessions and I don’t currently have the availability, I let them know that they will get the first option when it becomes available.
Personal training, is very personal. You develop a bond with the client. They share and give you additional insight into what is or is not working. They may not have that same bond or develop that if they’re being shuttled between different trainers.
That being said, with proper feedback between the trainers and a documentation system that supports it, it may be beneficial to the client to have a different pair of eyes and skill set work on them. For instance, I have a client who meets with me twice a week and a personal pilates instructor once a week. We often share notes and observations with the client’s ok.
I agree with Steve. In instances where I’m only available on certain days to train, my client and I arrange their training days around my availability. Like any arrangement, this COULD work with the right client and right co-trainer, but in our industry – which requires ultimate flexibility in the trainer’s schedule 🙂 – I don’t see why this would be necessary (i.e. only take on clients that you CAN handle in your existing schedule).

Hi Megan,
I have a unique client situation where I share. The other trainer is my husband, and the routines are designed to be compatible. I had been training this male client for many years, and he has a lot of challenges. We felt that a male trainer would bring a different ‘feel’ to the workout.
Having said that, this client situation is one-of-a-kind, and I cannot see it working easily with other scenarios.

I guess anything can work if you’re clear about expectations and the clients goals.
I would make sure everything is written down and the trainers discuss programming on an ongoing basis
Ultimately the client has to be 100% on board with it and has to succeed with this model.
Personally, this is not something I would do, I think it would be too conflicting.
