Has anyone worked with clients who have Myotonia Congenita/ Thomsen’s Disease?
Hello Megan Drane,
No, as far as I know, I have not. Does your new client get better with repetition or worse? If they get better, then you should be fine after a warm up and let them move slowly a few times for every move. Just doing what the client enjoys should help. Is this person working with others in the medical field and keeping a good diet and lifestyle? This is a time I would tell the client we need to work closely with doctors and learn together.
Please let me know how you make out.
Take care,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.
I have not. I would get as much help from the client’s healthcare team as possible. Get permission to contact their doctor and ask for recommendations/contraindications. Also, ask if there are any experts working with this issue. And then contact them or their organizations.
I started working with Parkinson’s clients and brain injury clients some time ago because of requests from people dealing with those issues. I got a lot of help and direction from their healthcare team. But it took a lot of effort on my end to keep in touch with some of the team. These are busy people, and I didn’t expect to be spoon fed. I researched and contacted many people in the field and continue to follow research and look for new interventions that are in my scope of practice.
