Has anybody done specific progamming to prepare for a hysterecomy.
Hi Stacia,
I am talking as somebody who had this surgery.
It will be helpful to be as fit overall as she can be, also from a cardiovascular standpoint. The pain after the surgery can be a lot but moving afterwards is a must to promote healing.
The recovery also includes the healing of internal ligaments which will be attached to different places. Thus she will be out of weight-lifting commission for about 6 weeks and should only do cardiovascular exercises during that time.
The overall recovery will depend on many factors, not least of which the type of surgery that will be performed.
Since she will be less active for a while and lying and sitting more than usual, I would do as many strengthening exercises for the lower back as possible, including back extensions.

Karin, thank you very much for your input. Your personal exoerience is very helpful! She has until Aug 13 to get ready. She will be having laproscopic surgery. We have been focusing on pelvic floor, abs and glutes. Ive also included a bit of spinal erectors. I didnt give any thought to cardiovascular. I will take your advice and put more into the low back and cardio. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.

It also depends of how the surgery will be done. If it’s is an abdominal incision then, yep, Karin has got it covered. However, if it is vaginal then no ligaments will need to heal and she should be good to go for walking in two weeks and everything else in 4. Mine was vaginal and there was no pain, just boredom. recovery was extremely easy at 45 years old.
