hamstring strain
Hi Daphne,
I would pretty much stay away from lower body exercises completely until that improved. I don’t mess around with injuries unless they’re my own. Hamstring strains can linger on forever, especially if you keep aggravating it. Light stretching is probably the most I would do – of course that depends on the severity of the injury. I wouldn’t do anything that causes the slightest discomfort to that area – let pain be the guide. If it lingers, your client should have it evaluated by a medical professional if they haven’t already done so. I hope your client feels better soon.

Hi Daphne,
I am with Paul on this one. Avoid all lower body exercises with the exception of mild stretches. Your client seems very motivated to work out regardless of the injury, and you should remind him or her that there will be many years of great workouts ahead as long as an injury is allowed to heal completely. Hamstrings strains are among those that have a propensity to settling in for the long nagging haul if not properly cured.

Hello Daphne Gillie,
You need to let pain be the guide. Of course, nothing which will lengthen the hamstring except for less ROM stretching. It is hard to hold back some clients; but, the quicker they heal the quicker they are back on track. The longer they ignore the pain/injury, the longer it takes to heal and get back on track.
Take care,
