For ACE certified trainers, which additional certification will boost your income: the GFI or LWMC certification? For me the purpose of a certification is to prove that I am qualified; individual CEC courses are helpful to me and my clients but won’t do anything for my resume. I can only afford one additional certification this year and I want it to be an investment that pays off financially.
You can boost your income with Group Fitness because you have a way to show case your knowledge and talents to a large group of people, and can pick up client that way.
The lifestyle coaching will boost your income by having the credentials to up your rates.
You can also begin teaching small group trainings which is more appealing to the general population. People seem to prefer working out with a friend and it’s a savings for them and an extra for you.
I hope this helps.
I agree with Marianne but this will apply only when you are actually planning to teach group exercise. This would mean that you become a part-time employee or subcontractor at a club. Be aware that picking up clients that way can potentially put you in conflict with the club if you do not plan to train them under the Personal Training program that this club may have.
You mention that the additional certification is only to demonstrate that you are qualified. That would tip the scales towards the LWMC certification. I hold this certification myself, and it is for the same reason.
Andrew, as you are already certified as an ACE PT I would say go for the GFI.
Here is the reasoning…
In the personal trainer curriculum, you learn a fair bit about behavior change through the IFT model. Hopefully this is something you are already putting in to practice.
Behavior change strategies is the backbone of the LWMC certification course.
As far as the GFI is concerned, I believe as a male you have more earning potential to teach and attract male group fitness participants than you would people who are seeking the services of a lifestyle and weight management coach.
Hope this is of help to you.
