For 2012, what’s new and gaining interest in group exercise?
It has been my experience teaching group exercise in a corporate fitness facility that members want FUN classes! We don’t ASK rather we LISTEN!
Classes are usually 30-40 min. during lunch hours so it is important that our members get a good workout and have some fun & stress relief mid-day.
The all time favorites of Kickboxing, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Body Sculpt, etc are still very popular but seem to be evolving to incorporate new moves and equipment. The idea is not to reinvent the wheel, just attach it to a new wagon!
Even though I am so far only one of a handful of MELT (Myofascial Energetic Length Technique) instructors, I believe that this modality as group instruction will gain a lot of interest. I have a growing number of loyal followers. And Sue Hitzman is busy training new instructors.
Incidentally, a lot of my participants are coming with problems that Joanne has listed. MELT is a modality that allows people of such variety of problems to be in one class together and all walking out feeling better.
