For the past two years I have been doing a warm-up type of group session for the Philadelphia Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and offering free one-on-one sessions to anyone who participates in the event. It’s a great feeling, giving back to those who need it for real health reasons and not just vanity!
I am currently training with Team In Training to run a marathon in San Francisco. As part of my fundraising, I created a special summer series bootcamp. I say special because it is only 3 sessions, knowing how crazy the summer is especially for me. I had 6 people at the first session. Not a great number , but they were all excited and worked hard. The second session is this Thursday and I’m hoping more people show up. Doing this for Team In Training has been very encouraging and has inspired me to really get out there and talk about training. Also while doing this and asking strangers and friends to get involved, I’ve realized just how apathetic people have become. They really don’t want to break out of their current lifestyles and comfort zones. That makes our job that much more important, and rewarding when someone actually decides they want to make a change.
I have over the years donated to various causes, either personal sessions or group lectures. The most rewarding moments are the one’s where you actually make a difference, or the times when people thank you personally because they so enjoyed the experience. Many times freebies go unnoticed.
