First Ever Fitness Presentation!
Hello all. Next week I am doing my first ever fitness presentation at our senior center in town to help try to bring more clients into our hydrotherapy pool. I am just looking for some suggestions of what you think would be important to add to my slideshow. I of course will talk about our pool and what it does but I also want to try to emphasize the importance of exercise in older adults. What would you do if you were me? Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Missy!
That is wonderful, and I’m sure you will be great! Is your hydrotherapy pool for a class or individual clients? A few things I can think of to add about this form of exercise (and exercise in general) for seniors are:
–How hydrotherapy is gentle on the joints (and may even help ease arthritic joints)
–Exercise, in general, can help seniors remain mobile and help everyday activities become a little easier
–Exercise can be fun! And a great social activity!
–Exercise/hydrotherapy can help alleviate stress
–Exercise/hydrotherapy can help seniors sleep better
–Exercise can help some of the physiological challenges of aging such as reducing blood pressure, helping to maintain bone loss, and improving body composition to name a few.
Hope you can use some of these suggestions and good luck!
Christine
Hi Missy,
when I talk to a group of mature adults, I tend to talk about the effects of exercise on quality of life. Living independently is one of the most important things for just about anybody I know, and I link back to that when I describe all the wonderful things that exercise can do.
I wish you good luck.
