Exercising while injured and muscle mass loss
Hello.
Two weeks ago, I injured my left quadricep during a training session. After doing all necessary tests, my Dr. told me that I will need at least three more full weeks of rest before returning to my normal routine.
The thing is, I work out at the gym. I can’t walk there due to my injury, and I currently don’t own a car. How much muscle mass I would lose without exercising for more than a full month? Is there any routine I could do at home to minimize it?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Jonathan,
I know that three weeks seems like a very long time. You will not turn into a complete marshmallow but the end of it, though. You will likely lose more aerobic conditioning than muscle mass. Take the long view here, give yourself the rest the doctor prescribed, and you will be able to make up for lost ground very quickly.

Concentrate on the upper body as well as on the other leg. Give the injured leg time to rest and recover and then start back again with a well planned and monitored exercise program. You will not lose that much of muscle mass so no need to worry about it. Consult with your doctor and once he give you the green light again you can get back to it.
