In the January 2014 issue of the IDEA Fitness Journal, the authors of The Physiology of Fat Loss very briefly mention that acidosis during anaerobic exercise is due to the release of hydrogen ions during hydrolysis of ATP, and not due to the build up of Lactate converted from Pyruvate. Does anyone have any more information on this? Does Lactate not dissociate hydrogen ions into the intracellular/extracellular fluids? i.e. does the Lactate that accumulates when oxygen is not available to further process it, not create a drop in pH?
