Hi

I am wanting to also find out some advice, I would like to begin a small gym for kickboxing and train children and adults, the situation is I haven’t got any certification? Does this actually exist.

What I do have is 15 years experience in training and actually competing and have won national , European and most recently world titles in full contact, does this qualify me to be an instructor or if not who offers certification ?

Thanks

You should do what ever you need to in order to qualify for insurance. If you don’t have insurance, you are leaving yourself and your clients open to some very unpleasant realities in the event of a problem.

It depends, IMO, on what exactly you want to teach. A fitness certification in kickboxing will likely be a cardio class that pantomimes actual kickboxing. I have a fitness kick-box certification, and that’s exactly what it was.

I learned a heck of a lot more in four and a half years of taekwondo (to black belt) than my one-day kb certification.

Some kick-box gyms will train you in their class formula so you don’t need to be certified, just trained by them.

No matter which route you take, you should have enough knowledge to perform and teach the moves safely, to start them at the most basic level for beginners and people with injuries, and to progress them up several levels of intensity.

Hello Alan,
I believe one should when teaching or instructing a class for money. One main reason is to protect yourself and the facility where you teach for liability reasons. Insurance would be another option as well. For the small amount of money invested to certify, its worth the piece of mind.

Sincerely,
Michael
