Does anyone use thumbtack to get leads/clients? If so, is it worth the $ you pay for credits?
At first, I thought that these aren’t real job requests, since I never heard back from anyone. Recently, I have gotten 3 steady clients through Thumbtack. One of my Thumbtack clients refer me to someone else. I had one person say I was hired, but never heard from them. They do give you a credit if the quote is not read with 48 hours. You need to respond quickly to requests since only 5 quotes are accepted.
Many are looking for the cheapest price they can get. It’s a hit or miss.
I offer a free consultation.
I had some clients post reviews and pictures, which I found helps.
I think it is worth a shot, but be patient.
I agree not worth it. People using the service are ones who aren’t willing to do the research online to pick specific trainers to reach out to, and/or aren’t willing to join a gym and train there.
Specifically, I often see requests for quotes where the person is asking to train at a gym that already has trainers in it (Lifetime or 24hr, etc), which means they are clearly trying to undercut those prices and of course this could get them and the trainer kicked out of that gym.
I get the sense that most people are just hoping they’ll miraculously get someone to be like “hi, I’m an award winning trainer with my own studio, and I’m all yours for $25 an hour.”
Being selective in who you quote to is important if you do use it. If you are in rehab or work special populations in particular you can pick up some clients who want to train in their home that make sense to be using the service.
But most are just trying to get the cheapest thing.
