Does any know about the personal trainer program through AFAA. If so what is your opinion about the course?
Hi,
I’m not too familiar with AFAA’s PT program but there are a few more popular programs that are researched based including: American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), to name a few.
I would suggest looking into the above organizations and maybe compare a few along with AFAA’s program.
Hello, Dominique!

I am certified with ACE and AFAA. I look at AFAA as a good starting point, but in no way is it a comprehensive training program. I do not feel it is a rigorous enough program. It is certainly not as highly valued as certifications by ACE or ASCM, and I think there is good reason for that. There is no way you can be prepared in a weekend certification. As I said, it is a good place to start, but you should only consider it a first step and continue your education.
Hi Dominique. I too hold the AFAA Personal Trainer certification – it was the first certification that I received in the industry. I agree that it is a great way to enter our industry. In my opinion this certification does offer some good information and support on training, and is recognized by many employers. Of course there are many other options, but as a start, I think that this is a good option for you.
