Yes – I hear complaints about that all the time. I have a few clients who travel long distances often. I can recall one client doing some damage to her shoulder while putting luggage in an overhead compartment. I usually end up doing lighter workouts with more stretching when people are just returning from a long trip.
I don’t have to look at my clients to understand the aches and pains when traveling. I HATE TO TRAVEL. Being stuck in an airplane seat constitutes cruel and unusual punishment to me. I try to follow all my own good advice and usually get by but all the variables over which I have no control can add up.
I had to laugh; most of my clients complain about aches and pains in their bodies! Do they mean this only happens when they travel? There are so many things that can cause this: extended sitting (while flying or driving), lack of usual activities, poor sleep hygiene, poor nutrition, stress…. I would work with the client on trying to maintain a minimal activity level. Emphasize breaks from extended sitting, give body weight and band exercises for hotel rooms, discuss good sleep practices and stress reduction techniques, and how to eat healthy when dining out.
