I use both a personal trainer and a massage therapist. I have done this for over 15 years and absolutely believe in it. When getting a personal trainer I suggest hiring one that can mentor you and bring your game to the next level. I see it as an investment in myself. I have also found that many of my clients view it as a positive factor. I often tell them that it helps me to better understand their position in our relationship. Todd Durkin and Alwyn Cosgrove are big advocates of fitness professionals having their own personal trainer.

I absolutely practice what I preach. Clients ask me the same question. Many times I must look at myself in the mirror as another stranger who needs a solution.
Yes, my experience with advice on myself and others definitely adds credibility. My current as well as potential clients have their eyes on me; so, I must be on my “best behavior” at all times.

Sure, I insist on practicing what I preach and always have. Also only keep certifications I enjoy using/teaching. It indeed makes for a deeper understanding of what people may feel and experience but all athletes are a bit different. Does it lend credibility to my suggestions? Sometimes. (sorry to say this) After being in Fitness for many years, I find often the best looking or most buff looking folks will have ignorant clients drawn to them just because of looks. But later, some of these clients, once they have a better understanding of what comprises a “good” trainer, will look for someone with more experience and training.
