Most trainers accept payment at the end of a session if the client is paying for each session indivdually. But most of us seem to prefer clients paying for multiple sessions in advance. I will allow clients that have been working with me for a long time to pay whenever they want for as many sessions as they want. It is rare that I don’t get paid for multiple sessions in advance.
But I also require clients to schedule sessions at least a week in advance. And I require 48 hour notice for cancelling a session. I don’t waiver from this policy as doing so would be unfair to other clients and myself. Again, it is rare that I need to deal with this issue.
Its pretty common and even wise for trainers and company’s that provide personal training services to charge in advance. 1. its easier to manage finances for the trainer. 2. Clients often see who see paying in advance as a motivator to make their session. If your concerned about a trainer not showing up after you’ve paid them you should insist on a contract of your agreement. But more importantly before hiring a trainer inquire about their professionalism, observe how they interact with others and always remeber that purchasing personal training sessions or hiring a personal Trainer is like trying on new clothing….. If it doesn’t fit or feel right, then seek out one that does. Remember the journey you’ve set out on is about your wants and needs. Take your time and make an informed decision.
I charge clients in advance and require full payment of services. I offer a small discount the higher the number of sessions. However, I am also flexible, and have allowed clients to pay 50% upfront and the other 50% at an allotted time. I have my own in-home business and it works for me (most of my clients are long term and I’ve never had an issue with payment).
Payment in advance is pretty standard–although I know for some clients it can sometimes be overwhelming. Definitely do your research on the trainer you are interested in and make sure you are comfortable.
