The gym I’m at just opened May 1st and they have decided to start offering these free sessions for Birthdays. They have arranged it so you can have a phone conversation with the member before the session to find out their history. But is that enough? I feel uncomfortable going into it without more information you would get from a proper assessment. The gym offers free Fit Scores and I just told them I think they should get one of those done before their free session. What do you all think?
Good question. I personally don’t offer free sessions as a birthday present
:-). As far as the gym goes, that is up to them to offer a free session. I agree with you that it wouldn’t be advisable to train a client without having done an assessment on them prior to the training for many obvious reasons. As for the ‘on the phone’ conversation regarding their health history it seems to me not a very reliable way of getting this type of information from the client/member. I would prefer having them go over a form which they can read and then sign acknowledging they have read and understood the information presented to them. And then if any problems or red flags come up, have them get a doctor’s release or simply deny training them.
