Do you offer complementary training sessions? Why or why not?

One complementary training session is used on my clients’ very first session.
I use this session to thoroughly cover my clients goals, questions, medications, limitations, injuries, nutrition ie: PAR-Q.
I also offer complementary sessions if specific goals are attained in a certain time period.
And finally, I offer complementary training sessions when a large number of sessions are pre-paid and/or how often my client re-books with pre-paid sessions.

I rarely do. I may give a free session as a birthday gift and as a thank you for referrals.

I do not give free sessions to ‘try personal training’. My rationale is that I always start with a comprehensive fitness assessment which easily takes three hours to complete. This is a time investment that I do not give away. And I will not compromise my standards by foregoing this assessment.

I do not. My time is valuable and very limited. I do offer clients to bring a friend for free for a session but I am still getting paid for my time.

I offer my initial meeting complementary to cover paperwork, medical and health assessments and Par-q. This allows me to discuss goals, see if there are any medical issues where we’ll need doctor approval before beginning and to see if we’re a good match for training together. All other sessions are paid for including the physical assessment.

No freebie sessions. I don’t charge for basic consultations lasting around 20 minutes or less but an hour of my work schedule is still an hour on the clock. If a lengthy initial consultation is needed, then it is probably due to medical necessity and that I charge for. All physical assesments are conducted while in session.
