Do you give your clients “Homework?”
I often give my clients newsletters once a month, most of these are with tips or contain articles about fitness etc . I am really wanting to start including “homework” for them though. I feel like it will help both of us achieve their individual goals easier. Do you give out “homework?” How often and what types? Since most of my clients have been here before me I feel like they may not like the changes I am going to implement- such as- bring in your weekend food journal. What are some ways I could perhaps make it fun for them or motivate them to particiapte and complete the assignments?
Hi Missy!
Our personal trainer and gym owner clients definitely send homework for motivational and retentional purposes. We’ve heard countless times that they’ve seen many clients just not come to appointments, so they have to find a way to keep communication up and keep working with them in between sessions.
Using our mobile solution (of course you can use other solutions, but this is just the experience we see 🙂 ) , they’ll send client a list of To dos explaining the workouts they should work on when they’re not meeting together. Each workout they share would give details on how to do it, a due date, and a website link or video link to further show how. Our clients also have an ability to check if a task has been completed and if their client has a question. This way, it doesn’t make it seem like a homework and more of a dialogue when they’re not together or for the next time they meet.
Our personal trainers also make sure that they keep in touch about the “homework” by chatting. Again, continues the dialogue when they’re not meeting each other, which makes sure the client isn’t just loyal to their workouts, but to their business.
