Absolutely not! If I recall correctly the first season of the biggest loser factored body composition into their equation for determining the winner. My understanding is they did away with the body comp because the general population didn’t understand it. The gen pop wanted/needed numbers on the scale and that was it, and that’s why we haven’t seen body comp on the BL since.
If there is one positive some of these shows provide (and I’m reaching here) it’s that perhaps some otherwise unmotivated individuals may find inspiration to begin to make positive lifestyle changes. However, these shows often create unrealistic expectations that are very hard to live up to. So the inspiration needs to be followed up with education.
