Do I need a shower in my facility?
Hi Tiffany,
Well it really depends on your facility. How many members? How many locations? Do you provide other services such as pool, basketball courts? There are many factors that would affect that decision.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Ron,
It will be a personal training/boot camp and sports performance facility. 2500 sq. feet with 2 bathrooms. 1 location; I have an LLC. There are no pools or basketball courts, ect. I am trying to decide if I should add a shower or 2… It may cost me $2-5,000. I have worked at a couple of studios where there were no showers, and I didn’t hear to many complaints about it… but I’m wondering if any fitness pros out there think that it may benefit me to have a shower or 2.
When adding services or things of that nature, keep in mind retention. Will this make more people come to your gym? Will this keep your members happy? Do a small survey, ask your members if this will ‘improve’ your facility. If your members are happy, you are happy. Also keep in mind that if your going to put in a shower, it will cost monthly to keep it up and your also going to want to have a nice one that will make your members feel comfortable.
Hope this helps,
Check out this link also. It has a survey about gyms and showers. Just wanted to give you an outside perspective.

Best of luck,

Hi Tiffany,
Is the cost based on an already built-out facility? Or are you working with a shell?
As a gym owner myself who has gone through numerous constructions of my own facilities (they were all shells) at least one shower was a must for me.
If you are working with a shell, it may behoove you to place the shower in now because if your members later request it after the build-out, restructuring the plumbing later can be a big pain and really expensive.
I do concur with Ron that retention should be consideration.
I hope this information helps and I wish you the best.
