The behaviours and traits of a leader belongs to man who suddenly passed away 7 years ago – Monty Dortkamp. He was my inspiration and responsible for where I am today.
He was nurturing but challenging in his teaching methods. He was able to see the potential in a person and then guide them on their way. He was approachable and friendly but still professional and inspiring.
One of my favorite people and instructors in the industry is Lawrence Biscontini. I have only ever met him as a presenter at the IDEA conferences where I took several of his classes.
What I find inspiring about Lawrence are his knowledge and professionalism which he wraps into an irresistable package of humor and compassion. He makes fitness fun. An hour in his class flies by; you leave feeling great because his programming is extremely well thought through. But at the same time you feel uplifted because of his bubbly personality.
His example inspires me to provide a similar experience for the students who come to my classes. It is my goal that – for the time they spend with me – they will forget their worries and just surrender themselves to the joy of movement and laughter.
