Balance, sometimes I get up and realize it is just Tuesday and look at the day ahead, there have been times when I wake up in the middle of the night to mentally go over the upcoming day. That is my signal rest is needed, last time that happened I slept for almost 15 hours straight, so it is very important to find an outlet for mental hygiene.

Thank you all for the great advice. I’m so excited about finally coming face to face with my real passion after all these years, I can hardly wait to get started. Now to pass the exam! 😮

Hi Lynn,

when I first started training, I was so eager to get clients that I was ready to train at any time of day and almost anywhere the client wanted. It did not take very long for me to recognize that that neither worked nor even made financial sense.

On the other hand: I had to go through this learning experience to understand what worked and what did not. And since I was not overrun with clients at the start of my training, ‘burnout’ was really not an issue.

Later on, though, it became necessary that I set boundaries when I am available for training. As I train out of my home, I have ‘me’ time the moment I leave the studio. I have enough time for my dog, my husband and myself (random order :-). Over time, you will find what works for you.

I wish you the best of luck at the start of your career.

Trainer burnout or client burnout?

I try to schedule simple “me” time on a regular basis. Weekend time away from work. Groups of friends to get into trouble with. Books. Etc.

Look for signs and divert before you go into full burnout.
Pay attention to your visceral reaction to people and situations
Read and stay tuned in.

Have a fun hobby away from work
Monitor your time and be ok with saying no!
