Contest and Challenge ideas for my clubs.
I am doing March Member Madness this month at both of my locations. I would like to offer a variety of challenges and contests for our members. I have them ranging from simply liking us on facebook to a 1000 rep challenge. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am just wanting to get our members involved.
Hello Thea! I like your enthusiasm! A challenge we had in the past was total miles or time spent on any cardio equipment on your list ie: Treadmill, Stepmill, Eliptical, Bike etc.
Assuming you have cardio equipment on both clubs, verify each entered contestant, equipment chosen and clock/note their time started/finished and then log it.
I like your 1000 rep challenge too!
Good Luck!
Michael
I like to use any games that ‘partner’ people up and compete as a team. Team competition is infectious and fun! Design weekly challenges that tie to a specific fitness/exercise goal that you create for a specific week and keep cumulative points per team (to be fair, the games should be scored “relative” to the teams’ baseline measure – for example, pounds lost etc similar to the Biggest Loser; or can be simple ‘raw’ measures such as number of steps taken as a team per week – pedometer). I like that you’re looking for new ideas! It keeps your programming fresh, as well as the interest in your programs exciting.
Good luck!

You could also have a question of the day surrounding nutrition and provide the answer the following day. The person who answers the question correctly, receives a prize. For example, when reading a food label, what should you be looking for? or have an empty container of yogurt and ask is this a “good for you food”? Why or why not? Everyone could learn something in the process.
I have taught water aerobics at the same Keller Natatorium pool in Texas for the past 81/2 years. This year I was laid off but given the opportunity to rent the pool and run my own business. As a result I have had to think of creative ways to increase my business and keep the clientele that I have work so hard for. Branding myself and setting my self apart from the old adage that water aerobics is just for grandma’s is first and foremost. Water aerobics has come so far from the days of milk jugs for equipment, Kickbox, Zumba and other popular forms have been added to keep it young and challenging.Facebook is a must talk about your class and get others to talk about it. Look to see how others are networking. I have my group write there name on the back of little red raffle tickets every time they come to class at the end of the month I draw for a discount and other small prizes
like water bottles or a small token related to a holiday that month.. Be creative and share ideas.. Best of luck
