Client contests/incentives?
Hello fit pros. Do you offer contests or other incentives to help clients/fitness facility members maintain continued motivation? Please share ideas here. What do you offer? What rewards do you give? Your responses may be included in an upcoming issue of IDEA Fitness Journal–with your permission, of course.
There are many, many ways to provide incentives to our clients. One I like to sometimes use, as a personal trainer, is a free 30-minute workout for a person that they designate for every 10-paid sessions that the client takes. This serves the dual purpose of giving the client an incentive to workout, and the opportunity to expose a friend or family member to begin training.
I hope this helps.

Hi Ryan
This year the most successful contest I ran at the worksite was the Make It Happen Team Activity Challenge. 2011 was a team focus year, intent on building support and working well with others. The Make It Happen team could be 3 to 5 people. They had to workout for at least two 15 minute bouts a day to receive one point, or 30 minutes and above once a day. Workouts could be walks, strength training or any cardio modality. If one person worked out for 30 minutes in one day they logged 1 points. If team mates worked together they each got an additional point depending on the number of team mates working out together, double points for 2 people, triple for three people etc. In the end all individual points were added for a team sum. Players soon discovered the value of team work and began to hold themselves accountable to working out with the team. It drove workouts, team spirit and trust. Each winner received $50 cash. The contest was eight weeks.
The next contest I ran, people signed up without my having even announced the incentive.

Hello Ryan,
One particular client stands out…a long standing client that has difficulty losing weight. We set goals, monitor calories etc. however, this client does great up until dinner then blows their diet. I didnt want to let this client go (which I have in the past for clients that dont follow their regiment) because I can see motivation and comittment and yes some frustration on their part. So I bet this client their entire PT fees if specific agreeable goals from both of us were met in 90 days, a full refund would be given.
Sincerely,
Michael
