Here’s the deal with Zumba.
The document you get at the end of the Zumba workshop is not certification, it’s a license. So if you don’t have a group fitness certification you are not yet certified.
As far as when it expires. Here is how Zumba works. If you are a ZIN member you don’t have to worry about your license expiring. You will be paying $30 a month to use the Zumba name and to teach their classes.
If, however, you are not a ZIN member your license is only valid for a year then you have to get it renewed.
To dovetail on Joanne’s response, the way to renew your license is to either retake Zumba Basic 1 or you can take Basic 2, within a year of obtaining your original license.
If you stop being a ZIN and you have specialty licenses (i.e. Gold, Zumbatomic, Aqua, Toning, Sentao), then those licenses expire in the month your ZIN membership expires. You ability to teach Zumba Basic remains until the one year renewal, but you can only teach specialties if you’re a ZIN.
