Careers fitness related research
I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum to post this type of question. I have been a Clinical Research Associate for 20+ years in oncology and am tired of my sedentary desk job. I would love a new job in fitness/nutrition that utilizes my current skill set and also allows me to expand on these. I’m not interested in being an instructor, trainer, club manager etc but trying to think outside the box and find a career that suits me. I’ve tried searching online but most CRA jobs are either in hospitals or with drug companies doing auditing and monitoring and sitting. When I search for jobs in fitness I come up with the ones I listed above. If anyone knows of something I could be looking into, please let me know. I feel like my mind is narrow on this subject and hoping there are more possibilities I’m just not aware of.
There are a few questions you probably want to mull over: Do you want to continue to be a clinical research associate, but in a field other than oncology? (specifically fitness /wellness/ nutrition) or do you want to use your skills in the area of oncology to move sideways into a different type of job? If the first the easiest thing might be to look for CRA jobs in schools or hospitals that do such research. If the second you might want to look at organizations that work with that population. I think it might help to find an organization you like and then see what sort of jobs they hire for, to see if there is a match with your interests or skills. If you find a type of job you think you would like, then you can see what you need to do to bring up your skills to match that type of job.
This is an organization I’ve heard about I thought you might have interest in looking at:

You don’t say where you are geographically, but this is the kind of program that might have something to offer you:
Thank you both very much. No, I don’t want to stay in oncology; I want something more uplifting. I also am not dead set on being in research. Though it’s hard to always identify, I’m sure I have skills that could be transferred to other things…I’m just not good at necessarily articulating it. It’s frustrating because I don’t hate my current job but for the last couple years I’ve longed for something different and it just nags at me but I have no clue what I’d want to do. I’m a big exerciser and love reading/learning about the latest in exercise/fitness so when I complain I don’t have a passion my family always reminds me it’s fitness. I wouldn’t want to teach but would love the energy/atmosphere/philosophy this area provides. Thanks again!!
