I own a personal training business where I offer group training. I’m struggling with how clients should be paying, if I should allow make ups, and if I should allow credits for classes paid. I have been doing classes for 5 years, and I find myself constantly changing my policy due to clients who find loopholes and end up pulling things over on me= less income. Any thoughts?
There are pros and cons to the various ways of handling it, as you appear to have learned!
My old policy was this: I ran 6 week sessions. Clients paid for 5 sessions and they had 6 weeks to use them. If they came to the first five and they wanted to take the 6th, I charged them half price for the 6th. That worked pretty well, but I had a few members who traveled for business and that didn’t work for them because they might only come to 2 or 3, and were willing to be my long term client, they just had to have a workaround.
My current policy is this: Purchase 5, 12, or 26 classes. My classes that are regularly “large,” no one has to RSVP because there are always people there. Usually 5-6, but I can handle the occasional 3 or 8. My small classes, meaning average of 2, people must pre-reserve in advance and if I don’t have reservations by noon the day of, there is no class. I’m OK with having an occasional hour off. There are no make-ups, but there is a generous policy for how long their sessions are usable.
