I have a client who fell off a horse when young, doesn’t believe she fractured anything but might have done ligament and/or other soft tissue damage. She can’t remember. However, she can’t use the leg press machine or the standing full elliptical machine, as her hips hurt a day later. What exercises would you suggest I avoid or include in her program design?
I would have the hip evaluated by her physician. There is clearly some type of structural issue if this still causes pain. It is most likely arthritic in nature, but before beginning any exercise program you have to rule out the possibility of causing more damage. If you get the all clear and have any phsician recommendations you want to discuss get back to us.
And you can get in touch with me if like through my website, www.hawaiifitnessacademy.com .
Hello Robin Schwartz,
After the client gets checked out or knows exactly what is going on, gets taken care of by doctors; I keep them in a pain free range of motion, also. We start with stretching sessions, then add the strength sessions being careful to listen to the body. The hips may be in a certain position that limits specific movements. We are all the same yet different. I am thinking assisted squat variations and stepping.
