I want to know what you think about GMO’s and the safety of the restructuring of food DNA or adding of DNA from other organisms. If you could provide some links to the research to back up your understanding of these foods that would be great. As per my understanding, these types of foods can be detrimental to our health. Thank you!
I am originally from Germany and therefore looked at web sites from Europe where GMOs are a lot less enthusiastically embraced. As far as I myself am concerned, I would not knowingly eat GM food.
Here are web sites with different views:
There is not a lot of creditable research about GMOs to make a significant claim that they are harmful to humans. Most of the negative concepts are speculations because GMOs have not been around long enough for us to know if they harm humans and the environment. Some of the theories for why GMOs may cause more harm then good, appear logical, but without raw data any result is possible. We claim to understand a lot, but we still have a long ways to go. With our limited knowledge, eating GMOs is more opinion based then fact based.
Below is some additional information about GMOs, also known as GE. Hope this helps.
Genes work in unison and are influenced by other genes and external conditions. Place the same organism in a different environment and the genes may react differently. The complex interaction of genes, coupled with our limited knowledge, makes GE foods both potentially promising and possibly perilous in terms of human and environmental health.
Europeans have been in an uproar against GE products, resulting in a virtual ban of bioengineered foods. Many Americans, on the other hand, see these products as the future of food. Why the difference in opinion? Europeans have an intimate relationship with food and devote much time to relishing meals and homemade cuisine. Americans often prefer dashboard dining and convenience foods. Some Europeans have also recently been exposed to mad cow disease; an experience that could certainly contribute to public mistrust.
Some of the potential benefits of GE foods include increased and heartier crop yields, reduced pesticide and herbicide use, more nutritious foods and better tasting foods with a longer shelf life.
We should acknowledge the Possible Pitfalls. Many scientists and consumer groups have expressed concerns about the following: unknown long-term health effects; creation of new allergens; gene pollution; creation of super-weeds and superbugs; and antibiotic resistance.

I, too, have been doing more reading/research on GMOs. To me it is very unsettling where GMOs are going and what it is doing to us and to the environment. I have moved to eating as much organic food as I am able and buying product labeled as non-GMO. It can be difficult. For companies that make product using GMOs I ask this – why are they so fearful of labeling a product as containing GMO? Its our right to know as consumers what we are putting in our bodies – why else are there ingredient lists on every food product? Why then should we not be told if something is made using GMOs? You can check out the corporate websites as suggested, but I would also recommend these: http://www.naturalnews.com and http://www.mercola.com
All the best.
