I am a personal trainer looking to expand into group fitness programming for aging adults (60+) and would like feedback on certifications programs or certificate courses that would prepare me well for expanding from 1:1 training to larger group programs for seniors. I would like to work with a variety of ability levels, with focus on the beginner/low fitness or ability population (such as might be for residents in a long-term care facility).
Check the follow organization:
Also ACE has a great one as well:
I hope this helps.
I am a fan of the Senior Fitness Association, and Harris has already provided a link. The one thing that makes them different from all the rest is that they ONLY deal with senior fitness whereas many other organizations have that as one of many options.
Look into the IDEA CEC’s library. I am working on one now which is part of the ACE IFT program called Active Aging training. There are also others. Some of them might have DVDs included. The one thing that is steadfast is you have to spend time with the individuals of this population. When you talk with them and listen to them they will tell you a lot about how to work with them. I work with in a group setting and individually and it is inspiring.
