I agree with all of the above statements. HIIT is one of my favorite things to do. Just the fact that I am challenging my body for some reason works really well for me.
I also love running and fun classes like Zumba. I did notice recently after starting Kettle bell training that I have lost the last few pounds I needed to lose. I think it is important to change it up a lot, usually when I plateau then, I switch it to something new and BAM! I start losing again.
There is no one best exercise. The best one, in fact, is the one that you will do regularly. Walking, jogging, cycling, treadmill, elliptical, workout discs, they’re all great. You just have to decide which one(s) you will do regularly, with commitment. And also recognize that your dietary choices are a big part of this equation. Eat enough of the right kinds of foods most of the time to be sure that you have the best fuels for your exercise program.
I agree with some of the others – definitely the one you find fun and will continue to do. I also believe that strength training is a must. As we age we naturally lose muscle – need to retain and build as much as we can to keep the metabolism running high.
I love kickboxing and also enjoy spinning and am getting back into running. I also lift weights 3X-4X per week.
