Are you passionate about ALL of your clients or do you wish you were training a different type of clientele?
I am happy to say that I am training the type of client that I enjoy training the most: clients around my age (56) or older. I enjoy the challenges this demographics presents, and I have no desire to train a different type of clientele. I like the variety of fitness levels inherent in that age group. It places great requirements on assessments, and the different personalities make me grow as a person.
And – yes – I am passionate about the well-being of ALL my clients and do the best I can do make them feel better, function better and live better.
A major part of my initial “consultation” with my perspective client is to get a feel for whether we are a good match (both from the client’s perspective and mine). If for any reason I do not feel that I can be “passionate” about working with the particular client I will not take them on as a client. Since this is based on my intuition, I recognize that I could be wrong, and only on a couple of occasions in my 17+ year training career have I had to later (after accepting a client) discontinue my work with them.
So, this is a long answer that YES, I am passionate about working with ALL of my clients! 🙂

Over my 16+ years of one to one training and coaching my spirit has occasionally twindled. When a client says one thing and continually does another I become demotivated. I have found that these times are periods of growth for me and potentially for them as well. I can, together with the client reassess their needs and wants, find an alternative source of stimulus for them in hopes of re-energizing them and myself, or find a better alternative beyond my services. I enjoy best, clients that use me as a guide and not a crutch. When I find that I have not empowered but rather made someone dependent, then I work up plan, B or C, or D to keeps us engaged.
