Are weighted vests beneficial ?
Hi Teresa. In my opinion, “yes,” weighted vests CAN be beneficial in your training. Like anything else, a lot depends on your goals and reasons for using this tool. For example, they can be used for something as simple as providing an ‘overload’ during a body weight exercise. They can be used to help develop ‘power’ or ‘ground-force production’ in jumping or plyometric drills/exercise. Additionally, there are several studies and research findings on the efficacy of using weighted vest. Here’s the link to one dealing with bone-density for women: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10995045
I hope that this helps.

I tell people that I’d rather have them use a weighted vest than ankle or hand weights when they go out walking.
