Not that a lot of programs aren’t guilty of this, but Cross Fit starts people off way too far ahead of the proper progression curve. I have watched their competitions on espn and some of the people competing don’t do squats and lunges, etc. correctly. No wonder so many of them have all kinds of k tape all over them. The only sound program starts people off with proper movement patterns and progresses from there. But I don’t know how many fitness instructors are doing that right now.
I’ve known people that have gotten injuries after joining a Crossfit gym and others that love it without any known issues at all. One gym in particular did not conduct any form of fitness evaluation, proceeded to “throw” the new member into a workout and from what I was told very little about proper technique. I know this falls on the trainer or that one gym in particular and I cannot speak about any other Crossfit gyms. I think Crossfit is safe for those who are deemed “eligible” after proper evaluation and progression.
