In the area I live, there are a few upscale housing complexes who have their own gym. I’m thinking of inquiring on adding a Personal Training program to the services they offer; with doing so, do you think the complex shoud receive a fee if I were to offer personal training services? Does anyone have a similar proposal to share or similar helpful information?
It depends on the type of relationship you are proposing. If you are requesting to train your clients at there facility where your clients pay you, then you should give them compensation. But if you are proposing they offer a personal training service where you are the trainer, then the clients should pay the facility and the facility should pay you.
Whichever option you choose make sure you present it in a way that clearly displays how it would benefit both parties.
In California, those communities have an HOA (Home Owners Association) and they all have Boards consisting of the Owners; additioninlly they have CC&Rs, covenants, conditions and restrictions, and they are the governing documents that dictate how the homeowners association operates. These are the folks you want to impress with your presentation. Its a great idea! These are the folks who tend to have the time/money/mind set for a trainer. Best of luck!!!
I am in this same situation. I am preparing a marketing packet to present to the housing communities in my area (in Florida EVERYONE lives in a community). Some have full gyms with aerobics studios, others have smaller sites with a few pieces of equipment. I think it is a great way to get involved and to gain income and clients. I believe meeting with the manager is the way to go. You are representing yourself and you want to put your best face forward. You want to show people that you practice ligitimate (sp) business ethics and morals. The repercussions of doing it under the radar, and getting caught and reprimanded could be detrimental to your name and deter future business prospects.
I think this is a great idea for both the complex and yourself! I would have your proposal ready to meet with the management/owner.
Share with them your ideas, your plan to market yourself within the complex, rates, percentages back to the complex, your credentials, insurance, references, a list of other successful complexes with the same services and what you expect from them in return i.e. how they will promote you and make persoanl training a another valuable emenity within the complex.
Keep us posted on your outcome!
Wishing You Great Success!
