First make sure you have liability insurance. I’d also have them fill out a questionnaire and waiver prior to the visit so you can best prepare. Maybe even set up a phone interview or Skype prior to.
But the initial session will predominately be for you to get a feel of how they move and what they are capable of. So Depending on if it’s 1x per week visit- maybe do a full body workout so you can see their complete form.
What other concerns do you have?
I have an in home business, but all of my clients have been referrals so I have not had to deal with that. You might try meeting at a library or Starbucks first to do an initial screening; do your par-q, health and exercise history, goal setting etc. there. If you feel comfortable you can set up your next appointment for the home.

I like the Skype idea, although it’s not as good as a face-to-face meeting in a public location (coffee place) to get to know the person better and have a better feel about him/her.

ALWAYS let someone know where you are going.
You can always let the person know that you prefer meeting in a public area for the first visit since you don’t know one another.
I have an in-home business (plus train at a local Rec center) and always research a potential client first. Most of my in-home clients are referrals so I have felt comfortable with the initial consultation.
For those clients I’ve had who were not referrals, I researched them first and let my husband know the address where I would be. I prefer to train only women in their homes, but I will train men at the gym.
Go with what you are comfortable with, and you could always have the initial consultation at a local public place.
