Ankle Arthritis
Gutted. Just been told I have ankle arthritis. Over use. No surprise but still a kick in the teeth. Anyway, I realized I know very little about managing arthritis. (for myself let alone clients). I’m aware that anti inflammatory drugs are used but know little else. Any advice would be very welcome. Cheers
Hello Robert Perkins,
No worries; most people unknowingly have arthritis, old injury scar tissue. Physical therapy with pictures to take home would be helpful.
I agree with Karin’s advice to follow an anti inflammatory diet and use meds as needed as prescribed by your doctor. Without knowing what type of arthritis, I suggest you try the following and do what feels better for you. Please remember to give yourself time to heal, also.
You may benefit from warm water soaks, try walking in salt water or using a pool. Keep up with your strength and stretch work from hips to toes, full body is always best. Pay attention to how you feel when the barometer drops and use the weather reports to your advantage. Do self myofascial release massage for internal hydration and proper scar tissue repair. Make sure to get enough sleep, eat well, and meditate, preferably outdoors. Now, treat yourself well with gentle motion by not overdoing anything so you prevent overuse injuries.
I hope this helps you and please remember we are in this boat with you; you are not alone. You should find that you enjoy trial and error to help yourself while sharing your successes with others.
Thank you,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.
Hi Robert,
I have clients who manage their arthritis quite successfully with diet that combats inflammation. I find that there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer here. I would do a google search and experiment with different diets. Medication is always an option, and some arthritis medication is taken as needed rather than on a daily basis.
Hope this helps.
