Will you please send me a full description of Aerobic & Step Master Instructor< or just a general description of a Master Instructor at something,this is to clarify that some individuals call themselves titles such as' Master Instructors " that they don't actually own. Some companies are assuming that they can create a job title such as ' Master Instructor "so they end up giving titles and names to simple instructors who haven't even passed through a course such as : Step Master or Aerobic Master etc;
It sounds like in Europe, they use the term “master” to mean the same thing as “advanced.” First, one gets a step certification, and then if they want more skill, they get a step master certification. Is that correct?
Here in the US, we don’t hear “master instructor” much. I can’t remember hearing that term in the last few years. But we use the term “master trainer” quite frequently. That’s typically the title of someone who provides the instruction to an instructor. The CEC providers.
Are you still seeing different uses of “master” in Europe, some that are actually advanced trainings and some that are made up titles?
Actually one definition of a master instructor is someone qualified to teach others to be instructors to the general public in a fitness (or any) environment. Whether this is the actual case can be proven in the quality of the instructors that the master instructor has taught and by the organizations that accept their programs. Any one teaching CECs for ACE, AFAA, etc. has the title “Master Instructor”. I teach my own CEC course that meet the requirements of all certifying agancies that I know of so far. I also taught for NPTI in Lakewood, CO. And did trainings for employees at a number of facilities that I have worked at.
I am amused by these other answers though. It is very unprofessional to make statements disparaging the credentials of others without knowing what they do and what the titles actually mean. I am sure that some here will say, “It is my opinion and I am entitled to it.” But it is also disrespectful of the industry as a whole to make such comments publicly in a forum such as this. And yes, I hope those here discrediting the title of Master Instructor take my comments to be a direct afront to their “opinion”. If your feathers are ruffled, I am not sorry.
I hold European fitness credentials. In fact I’ve taught both in England and used to own a pilates studio in Italy.
If you go to www.erep.eu you will see that there are no instructor with a title such as master this or that will be able to use that credential for entry into the European Registry of Fitness Professionals.
The standard in Europe at present is to determine is the instructor is listed on the registry, has insurance and also to assess what level the instructor is listed on on the registry.
Since you’ve mentioned you are from Holland you might want to visit www.ereps.eu and click the flag for the Netherlands. You will likely get a better answer than we can provide.
I wish you all the best.
Thank you for your reply and FYI:)
However i must tell you that in Europe there are Fitness associations that offers courses such as: Step Master, or Aerobic, Master, or Spinning Master,etc…. this is only to help instructors to become better and well skilled in teaching, these courses could take an year each and you will have to work very hard to pass the practical_+ Theory parts.
My question above was more related to the fact that out are individuals who called themselves Master Instructors without having at list a’ A course of Aerobic” and they get away with it. Or they get lucky to work somewhere and their company decide to give them a name like ‘ Master Instructor’ which it will make a difference in their pocket, and they dint even have a qualification in that aria.
So what do you think about this?
I agree with you that the industry has grown and it s not necessary to label it with such names, but i have done courses in Holland and i have these / qualifications: so when you apply for a instructor job i guess it looks good if you can prove that you are Fitness Professional highly skilled in certain arias.
Thank you so much, and i hope it may help others to see things in different perspective.
Take care ,
