Hi am a bit confused on the whole coaching thing. I would like to expand my knowledge but having a hard time deciding which route to go. I am a stay at home mom with a personal training cert. and working on aquiring all the head knowledge before i go out into the field. I would like to access people as whole, fitness, mindset, lifestyle, etc. I see there are wellness coaches, life coaches, and now I see ACE has a health coach certificate. I was also considering the ACE lifestyle and weight management coach. Any thoughts out there on which gives you the most info and freedom to work with peolple on all aspects of health.
Jenn – It looks like you got a lot of great information about the ACE Health Coach certification, but please let us know if you have any further questions. This certification is intended for fitness, wellness, health care, human resources, and allie dhealth professionals who want to make a difference in people’s lives. The ACE Health Coach manual emphasizes fitness, nutrition and behavior modification, and is the only NCCA-accredited certification of it’s kind. Here’s the link: http://www.acefitness.org/getcertified/health-coach-certification.aspx.
Also, we want to let you know about our newly launched ACE specialty certifications, which are a great way to become an expert in a niche market, including everything from weight management to orthopedic exercise. Obtaining a certification will earn you CECs as well, so it’s a win-win for already certified pros! Feel free to check them out and let us know if you have any questions! http://www.acefitness.org/getcertified/specialty-certifications.aspx
I looked at your profile and it states you train people in their homes, that is the direction I would like to go in. I was wondering if maybe I can ask you a few questions as I don’t have any mentors in this field and been seeking out some. If you are open to this idea please shoot me an email.
I too am a stay at home mom to 3 little ones and am a personal trainer part time. I work out of my home and go to clients houses bringing all equipment with me. I also work with small groups. I was recently certified through ACE as a Lifestyle and Weight Management Coach, now the Health Coach certification. It has really been a great partnership to how I was already helping my clients and helped me to bolster my knowledge base and expand my services. I now feel like I can more broadly help my clients with their weight loss and nutritional struggles. As you already know, losing weight is about so much more than exercise. The ACE Health Coach certification helped to give me the tools I needed to help my clients with this issue. I work specifically with pre/post natal clients and women.
Good luck to you!
Thanks Matt for the thorough answer on the health coach, that sounds interesting to me as I love the idea of the psychology aspect of training and coaching. I was considering the Institute of Intergrative Nutrition, to further educate myself, but being a stay at home mom right now it is a lot of money for me to spend. So I think I will go for ACE’s health coach, it sounds like a good way to diversify myself in this field.
Thanks everyone for your input 🙂
