Hi am a bit confused on the whole coaching thing. I would like to expand my knowledge but having a hard time deciding which route to go. I am a stay at home mom with a personal training cert. and working on aquiring all the head knowledge before i go out into the field. I would like to access people as whole, fitness, mindset, lifestyle, etc. I see there are wellness coaches, life coaches, and now I see ACE has a health coach certificate. I was also considering the ACE lifestyle and weight management coach. Any thoughts out there on which gives you the most info and freedom to work with peolple on all aspects of health.
ACE Lifestyle and Weight Management Coach has very recently been renamed and is now called ACE Health Coach.
I have held this certification since 1995 and pretty much used the knowledge as part of my personal training. I do not do coaching by itself.
Since much of the coaching revolves around weight management, by mindful of what you can and cannot do which is largely determined by state regulation. For example, writing meal plans is something that I MUST not do even if I think I can.
Good luck in your search.
Yes, ACE renamed the LWMC to health coach.
I believe that your personal training certification is probably enough to help the general public. The other courses will add to what you already know, though.
Being a stay at home mom is most rewarding; enjoy every minute with your family. Take care.
Hi Jenn. I believe that a lot depends upon where you would like to place the emphasis in your practice. For example, I see a Wellness Coach as focusing on the holistic approach of health and wellness for their clients whereas, in my opinion, a Lifestyle Coach is looking at the impact of how a person ‘lives their daily life’ and how that impacts them. Admittedly, there is much cross-over in many of these specialty certifications.
Good luck, and welcome!
Karin is right! ACE just replaced the old Life Style and Weight Management Coach with the Health Coach certification. I am actually waiting on my materials which should come any day. I hope to be certified in a couple of months. If you go to ACE’s site it is pretty user-friendly and might help answer some of your questions 🙂
