ACE Health Coach Exam Tips
Hi all,
I have been studying off and on over the past few months but buckling down now that my exam is Oct. 25th. I’d love any advice or study tactics anyone who has taken this exam can offer! I took my CPT through ACSM which was touch but I passed the first round and would like to be overly prepared for this one. Thanks in advance!
Hi Samantha,
I earned my ACE Health Coach certification last year… I bought the standard book and completed the manual–plus bought few practice tests (I would recommend a practice test or two). The test is challenging, and I remember the questions being mainly real life application problems–very little regurgitation of information. That being said, you really need to know the material and how to apply it to clients. Utilize any free help that ACE offers such as weekly chapter summaries or questions.
I tried to go through the book/manual 2x thoroughly and focus on the chapters where I was weakest. In the back of your ACE manual, it will tell you where the percentage of our questions will come from. This may help you to prepare as well. Flash cards may help you–I used them a little. There are a few websites out there that have some pre-programmed flash cards already made for this exam or you can make your own (if I can think of them I’ll pass the websites along).
The test is all multiple choice, and I found that many times I could easily narrow the potential answer down to 2 choices (that is where it was hard for me–I could narrow it down but the answers seemed to each be potentially correct). Also, when you take the exam, go through and answer every question first. You can flag the ones you are unsure of and then go back to check–but don’t leave them blank and go back (I needed almost the whole three hours for this test–but I don’t like multiple choice!).
The health coach certification was a really helpful missing link for me with regard to client behavior and I’m happy I did it.
Good luck to you–you will do great! Keep us posted!
