ACE Letter from Scott Goudeseune

Dear ACE Family,

Congratulations on the completion of a successful year!

At the start of the new year, the tendency is to look ahead and make resolutions about the future—but it’s just as important to catalog successes from the previous year. And if you’re not sure whether it was a successful year for you, it might be time to take a closer look at what you really did achieve.

I often find myself in conversation with incredibly successful health and fitness professionals—people who have helped countless clients improve their lives, and who have even led workshops and given presentations at major fitness conferences across the world—and when I ask them what they’ve achieved in the previous year, they’ll immediately begin telling me all the areas where they fell short of hitting their goals.

I understand the importance of being humble and of recognizing areas where we could put in more effort—that is a critical skill to possess as a professional—but it’s equally critical to recognize what we have achieved, and to feel good about that. Feeling positive about our achievements can only help us when it comes to keeping our clients, and ourselves, happy and motivated.

In this past year, if you’ve worked to get clients and class participants moving, then you should absolutely put that down as an accomplishment—and a major one, at that—because it means you have helped increase the chances that these clients will not develop any number of inactivity-related diseases in the coming year.

Of course, if I know anything about the work ethic and drive of ACE Pros, it’s that many of you have done this and much, much more—and I’d love to hear about it.

What accomplishments are you most proud of from this past year, and what’s your strategy for the coming year? Let me know at tellscott@ACEfitness. org or on Twitter @ACEOscott.

Now let’s get people moving.

Scott Goudeseune
President and CEO
